International Summit on Peace to empower diverse communities on 6th September 2017

Kuching, 17th August 2017: The International Summit on Peace, slated to be held from 6th – 8th September 2017, will highlight unique pathways to peace in an effort to empower individuals to successfully advance peace in their distinct communities.

Driven by Junior Chambers International (JCI) and the State Government of Sarawak, the International Summit on Peace will gather more than 800 JCI members and representatives of social and youth organisations around the world in Kuching, Sarawak as a prelude to the International Day of Peace which falls on 21st September 2017.

“As Malaysia’s only “City of Unity”, peace is very much a part of Kuching’s DNA,” said Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports.

He further commented, “The continuity of peace is crucial for the spur of further development in our State as it boosts tourism and ultimately contributes to the betterment of the society. Through the International Summit’s comprehensive programme and its distinguished list of speakers, we are also hoping to invite 3 keynote profile speakers in contributing to the Summit’s peace-making initiatives.”

The International Summit’s programme will feature training workshops, plenary discussions and keynote addresses by international trainers and youth leaders. In addition, the State Government will organise tours to showcase the cultural and religious diversity of local communities. The International Summit will conclude with a Peace is Possible Proclamation and a musical concert.

The most prestigious VIP speakers on the current wish list of invitees, include: President Paul Kagame (President of Rwanda), Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium, and President Juan Manuel Santos (President of the Republic of Colombia). Acceptance would confirm Sarawak’s vision as a host of prestigious international conferences that could draw the crème de la crème of speakers.

Sarawak won the bid to host the International Summit of Peace in February 2017 with the unanimous coalition of the Sarawak State Government and Sarawak Convention Bureau.
