Malaysian Society for Labour and Social Security Law (MSLSSL)

Consultant, Equipment Hire, Talent providers, Speakers, Trainer

The proposal to establish a Malaysian Society for Labour and Social Security Law was first mooted about 25 years ago when the late Tan Sri Harun Hashim was then Chairman of the Industrial Court. It did not take off after his elevation as Judge of the High Court, Malaya. The head office of the ISLSSL in Geneva through its then Malaysian representative, Mr. Ram Thiagarajah, approached Dato Dr. Cyrus Das to take over the task. Dato Das was formally appointed after the IX World Congress which was held in Sydney in September 2009. The Society was officially launched by YA Puan Susila Sithamparam, President of the Industrial Court, Malaysia in conjunction with the Labour Law Conference on 10th January 2010 at the Prince Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. A protem committee comprising representatives from the various stateholders of the labour and employment industry was appointed by Dato Das as Chairman of the protem committee and held its lst meeting in January 2010. The immediate task of the protem committee was to draft a Constitution for the MSLSSL for submission to the Registrar of Societies (ROS). The draft Constitution was submitted to the ROS in August 2012 but was delayed due to numerous amendments required by the ROS. After numerous representations by our solicitors Zul Rafique & Co. the Society was finally registered on 25th October 2011 after which we received about 60 applications to become members. A committee would be appointed soon for membership drive. MSLSSL is a unique Society that brings together all the stakeholders of the labour and employment forces which includes those from the legal fraternity, human resource personnel, trade unions and academicians. The object of the Society is to provide a continuing platform for the development of labour and social security laws in developing countries like Malaysia where the cost of living expense like medical and other daily expenses have escalated tremendously. We will work with the labour and employment forces for the necessary reforms.

Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology (MSO)

Consultant, Equipment Hire, Talent providers, Speakers, Trainer

The Society was first formed in 1964 by pioneering Malaysian Ophthalmologists, as a society within the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) designated as the MMA Ophthalmological Society (MMAOS). Over the following 45 years, the society grew in membership and activities under the umbrella of the MMA, promoting and advancing the specialty. Eventually, the membership of the MMA OS realised that, in order for the Society to fulfill its objectives and to meet new challenges more effectively, it was necessary to spread its wings and exist as an independent society. With that, the MSO was formed and successfully registered with the Registrar of Societies on 15 April 2008. The MMA OS was dissolved on 31 December 2009. As our predecessor society had done so well over the years, the MSO will continue to carry the flag for the profession of Ophthalmology in Malaysia, having taken over all the duties and functions of the MMA OS.

Malaysian Society of Traumatology & Emergency Medicine (MASTEM)

Consultant, Equipment Hire, Talent providers, Speakers, Trainer

The concept of emergency health care systems in Malaysia existed since the 1950s. However it was not systematic nor integrated as it was the most neglected clinical area and no special attention by other specializations. The set up used to be a rather small unit with limited space, run by medical officers and assistant medical officers in some of the district hospitals. It had no triaging system and no separate areas for resuscitation. Emergency Medicine is the 14th specialty recognised by the Ministry of Health. The program was initially proposed by the dean of the School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The task to start and run the program was given to Professor Dr Kamarudin Jaalam who was an intensivist with a PhD in ultrasonography in year 1997. In 1998, he collaborated with Professor Dato’ Sri Dr Abu Hassan and MOH, together with help from anaesthesiology department, USM to establish the Master of Emergency Medicine Programme at the university. Dr Wan Aasim Wan Adenan, an anaesthesiologist, who headed the Emergency Department at the USM Hospital joined hands to run the programme and from here, there was no turning back and Emergency Medicine became a specialty on its own. All these strong characters were the champions for the establishment of Emergency Medicine in Malaysia.
