26 November 2021 – Kuching, Sarawak: Sarawak’s business events industry celebrates another breakthrough with the launch of BESarawak Centralised Collaboration & Data Sharing Initiative, in short BEdata, at BESarawak’s Tribe Assembly 2021.

Tribe Assembly 2021 is the next episode of Tribe Assembly series which was first organised in 2018 to award and celebrate the achievements of industry partners. However, besides recognising talents, this year’s event expanded its programme to include education sessions and a fireside chat with government and business events stakeholders, as well as a launch.

Beyond obtaining an overview of Sarawak’s business events sector and its local economic impact, BEdata creates a baseline for data generation concerning meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions, and provides in-depth market analysis to support lead generation and business development. Data contribution is predominantly by the government sector with the aid of private sectors.

In addition, BEdata is expected to support investment decisions made by the government to ensure the sector remains competitive; while assisting in formulating strategic and tactical plans to develop the industry.

Speaking at Tribe Assembly 2021, Datuk Sebastian Ting is encouraging both government and private sectors to contribute to the initiative. Sarawak’s Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture also stated that “there is no denying that marketing and winning bids are important. However, we, as a destination, are accountable to develop the industry in a holistic manner by securing public and private sector partnerships. We must nurture the ecosystem together.”

BESarawak’s Government and Industry Relations department was established in 2016 to facilitate the development of the resource pool from the government sector, industry partners, academia, and media. “We want Sarawak to be a more competitive destination by focusing on industry education and development,” said Amelia Roziman, BESarawak’s CEO. “Our goal in mind is to develop the industry in a holistic manner that puts equal focus on developing hard infrastructure as well soft infrastructure and human capital.

Tribe Assembly 2021 was also the opportunity to recognise 12 International Convention Scholarship Award (ICSA) 2018/2019 recipients and 49 industry partners who obtained internationally acclaimed industry qualifications and designations such as the prestigious Certified Meeting Planner (CMP), Certified Incentive Specialist (CIS), Digital Event Strategist (DES), Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM, and Certified Event Designer (CED).

Updates were also shared on the progress of Business Events Sarawak Association Centre where plans are being drafted to support newly formed national associations establishing a headquarter in Sarawak. Current tenants are Sarawak Tourism Federation and Malaysian Dental Association Eastern Zone.
