BESarawak is committed to drive sustainability through responsible business events that are aligned with the Sarawak Government’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030). Our goal is to make Sarawak as one of the leading ASEAN destinations for sustainable business events and eco-tourism by 2030.
In the first year of assessment (2021) Sarawak scored 41% on the sustainability scale, outperforming GDS-Index’s list of new and returning destinations.

As a world-first for Malaysia to drive this initiative, the GDSI Partnership Programme –
Sarawak Region (GDSI-Sarawak Partner) was launched on 11th August 2021 comprising 30
committee members from local government ministries and agencies, academia,
associations, and industry partners.
The members will champion the State’s sustainable future through data consolidation,
stakeholder engagement and communication.
Sarawak is working on destination improvement activities to further improve Sarawak’s
performance index and expand to other cities in Sarawak. This also includes training,
educating and certifying our industry partners on sustainability and its practices.
