Explorer’s Enquire Within: In Search for Sarawak’s Next Convention Ambassador

KUCHING, 17th April 2014: The International Convention Scholarship Award (ICSA) is entering its sixth year and Sarawak Convention Bureau is in search of Sarawak’s next Convention Ambassador. The award is open toall Sarawakians and residents of Sarawak over 18 years of age from educational institutions, private companies or Government Departments, students of tertiary institutions with support from their University or College. They must either be existing members of non-profit or Government associations to be eligible to join.  The choice of convention must rotate among different destinations and have the possibility of being hosted in Malaysia.

Mr Dylan Redas Noel, Director of Research in SCB said, “Successful applicants will receive a grant of up to RM10, 000.00 to be used to fund their travel, accommodation, association membership and convention registration fees to attend the approved international convention of their choice.  Applications will close on 31st July 2014 for conventions being held between September 2014 to December 2015.”

In 2013, six (6) recipients were awarded the scholarship to attend various conventions across the globe. They are:

1. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Voon Boo Ho, University Teknologi MARA Sarawak

– 2013 International Conference on Materials, Architecture and Engineering (Beijing, China)

2. Dr. Hamrila Abdul Latip, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS)

– International Conference on Economic and Social Sustainability 2013 (Tokyo, Japan)

3. Ngui Kwang Sing, Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus)

– The Fifth Asian Conference on Education, ACE 2013 (Osaka, Japan)

4. Chua Lee Chuan, Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Kampus Batu Lintang

– International Consortium for Educational Development (ICED) (Stockholm, Sweden)

5. Dr. Caesar Dealwis, University Teknologi MARA Sarawak

– FEL XVIII 2014 Foundation of Endangered Languages Conferences (Okinawa, Japan)

6. Brian Loh, Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus)

– 9th International Conference on Information, Communication and Signal Processing (Tainan, Taiwan)

He added, “Previous winners have returned with a wealth of knowledge that has added to their respective professions. Moreover, they have also successfully bid and won for conventions to Sarawak that have been successfully held and more to come in the next few years. We hope this will continue to showcase the benefits and opportunities of attending international conventions and nurture future convention hosts for Sarawak.”
