Appreciation Awards for Convention Hosts

The Sarawak Convention Bureau’s nineteen new Honorary Convention Ambassadors together with ten KL based agents were treated to an evening with James Bond at the Links Restaurant, Civic Centre Kuching on 22nd November.

Upon arrival at the venue, guests were escorted by Bond beauties to the James Bond car, a Jaguar XK8 (sponsored by Tan Brothers) for a photo session.

Cocktails were served while recipients and guests mingled amidst the Casino Royale theme with Bond himself in attendance. Guests were entertained by tribute shows featuring ‘Michael Bubble’ and ‘Norah Jones’ from Australia.

Organised by the Sarawak Convention Bureau, the “Anak Sarawak Appreciation Award 2008” recognizes those who have successfully bid for new national or international conventions to Sarawak. It acknowledges their commitment and dedication to the growth of Sarawak’s MICE industry.

The Sarawak Convention Bureau was established by the State Government in May 2006 to attract more conventions to Sarawak. The Bureau’s services are provided free of charge to meeting planners and include assistance with bids for conventions, marketing and delegate boosting services.

Sarawak’s profile as an emerging international meetings destination continues to grow with the Bureau’s calendar of events boosted by successful bids for 22 new conventions to take place over the next couple of years. Next year, the state will host major conventions such as the 8th World Congress on Engineering, District 51 Toastmasters International Convention and the 11th National Congress of the Federation of Tailor’s Guilds Association. The Bureau is currently working on fifteen new bid opportunities.
