Firefly Spread Its Light In Borneo

Sarawak, Borneo –  steeped in old world charm yet blessed with modern technology. This place is ready to take on the world with its brand new state-of-the-art Convention Centre and new meeting hotels, supported by a fantastic range of great ecotourism products and now even more flight connections.

Existing carriers servicing air travel in Sarawak include Malaysia Airlines (MAS), Silk Air, Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA), AirAsia, Tiger Airways and the latest addition – Firefly, a low cost subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines.  Firefly offers four daily flights from Kuala Lumpur, which is one of the main international hubs connecting Kuching to the rest the world.

According to Ms Angelina Corrina Fernandez, Firefly’s Head of Marketing and Communications, “Firefly’s customers will be able to enjoy the same level of booking convenience, comfort and superior service at low fares on the Boeing 737-800 aircraft. These low fares signify our commitment to better serve the community and provide discerning travellers with greater choice and incredible value for money.”

Firefly celebrated its inaugural flight from the Main Terminal Building at Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Kuching after receiving a warm send-off from a contingent of airport officials led by Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad on 15th January 2011.

Mrs. Jill Henry, CEO of Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) said, “We are extremely pleased to welcome Firefly to Sarawak. Their affordable services will  provide great value for both domestic travellers and international delegates who are able to directly connect through the Malaysia Airlines international network.
