Impressive 80% for Sarawak Convention Bureau

With support from the Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and a strong expanding team in Kuala Lumpur, West Malaysia, Sarawak proved is maintaining its strong international performance this year.

Recording an impressive 80% success rate in mid-2011, the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) has won 20 conventions to the heart of the World’s oldest rainforest. These conventions are expected to generate RM20, 807,572 million in delegate expenditure.

These conventions will position Sarawak as competitive new destination and boost Malaysia’s growing reputation as meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition (MICE) destination globally. The conventions cover a wide range of topics and hese include:

  • International Symposium and Exhibition on Natural Dyes – ISEND 2012 in Kuching, Sarawak (700 pax)
  • 9th World Congress of Chinese Medicine 2012 – WCCM in Kuching, Sarawak (1000 pax)
  • IHA 2013 World Congress on Advancing Sustainable Hydropower in Kuching, Sarawak (600 pax)

Since 2006, the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) has secured a total of 151 conventions which are expected to bring 72788 delegates and generated RM164, 851,471 million in delegate expenditure.

In releasing the mid-year results, YB Dato’ Sri Dr. Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah, Chairman of Sarawak Convention Bureau said, “with the ongoing joint efforts with Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), meeting planners are enjoying both Federal and State Government support to help them to bid for international conventions to be held in Sarawak.”

“We are particularly pleased that our State Government has now extended its own subvention fund for the next 5 years to 2016 giving us access to a further of RM25 million,” he added.

UCSI CityIsland Hotel

Currently under construction, the 5-star establishment will be located at Kuching Isthmus right opposite Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), and will house 360 rooms, 6 F&B outlets and 4 kitchens. UCSI CityIsland Hotel is set to make a debut by late 2013.
