Miri Resort City to entice MICE Planners

MIRI, May 5th, 2009 – Miri will host nine representatives from Destination Management Companies and MICE Travel Agents from KL, Sabah and Brunei. This five-day Borneo Exploration site tour organized by the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) is to showcase Northern Sarawak as a world-class meetings destination.

“Miri is set to expand its meetings infrastructure in the next few years with the development of the new Four Points by Sheraton, and as being the Gateway City to Northern Sarawak within easy reach of national parks, adventure travel option and the Mulu world heritage; it is already developing a strong track record of successful conventions and events. With land access from Brunei and Sabah it is well positioned to capitalize on this high yield market segment.” says Mrs. Jill Henry, Chief Executive Officer of SCB.

The Bureau will be collaborating with Transworld Travel Services Sdn Bhd where the latter will handle the representatives group’s site program and showcase the facilities in both Miri and Mulu.

Miri City Council Mayor Lawrence Lai will welcome the representatives before proceeding to Mulu for a special incentive program in Mulu National Park. They will be one of the first groups to experience a new “Treasures of Mulu” team building activity showcasing Mulu’s natural wonders such as Wind and Clearwater caves, Lang and Deer caves and a first visits to Lagang Cave.

The highlight of their stay in Mulu is a “Kuman Burah Suneh” theme dinner showcasing the Berawan culture at the Bat Observatory while viewing the evening bat exodus.

Back in Miri the representatives will stay at the Miri Marriot Hotel & Spa, have dinner at Miri’s leading boutique restaurant, the Marina Bay Seafood Restaurant and enjoy the best sunset view at the uniquely designed Miri Sea-Horse Lighthouse.

They will then see a unique introduction to some voluntary work under the CSR program at the Miri General Hospital. The representatives will volunteer specifically in the beautification work of painting. At lunch, they will meet and present gifts to young patients.

That evening, they will attend the annual International Miri Jazz Festival, organized by the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) to be held at the Pavilion of ParkCity Everly Hotel where eight international bands will be performing.

Before departure on the final day, the representatives will visit Mega Hotel and Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort for site inspections and product briefings.
